San Miguel just has too much firepower.
The defending four-time champion Beermen have wrapped up their elimination round in the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup by getting a smashing 114-96 win over Alaska Sunday at the Big Dome.
Down five at the break, San Miguel flipped the switch in the second half, scoring 34 points in the third period to break the game wide open.
The Beermen ended up leading by as many as 21 points in the fourth, cruising to victory and ending the elimination round with a 7-4 record.
San Miguel now moves on to the best-of-3 quarterfinals where their title defense will start against either TNT or Brgy. Ginebra.
"We all know we're already in the quarterfinals, best-of-3 quarterfinals, but this game is really important for us," said head coach Leo Austria.
"I'm so happy with the players because nakita niyo may sense of urgency, we don't want to get to the quarterfinals on a losing note," he added.
Alex Cabagnot was brilliant all game to lead the Beermen with 31 points. Meanwhile, the returning Christian Standhardinger added 23.
The no. 1 pick of the 2017 Draft scored 13 points in the fourth, helping San Miguel land the decisive blow on the Aces. Arwind Santos finished with 17 points for good measure.
Chris Banchero led Alaska with 22 points while Carl Bryan Cruz was good for 13. However, the Aces are officially on the brink of elimination.
As it stands, Alaska is just holding on to 8th place with a 4-6 mark.
