Finally, Northport has rediscovered its winning ways.
The Batang Pier have kept their 2019 PBA Philippine Cup playoff hopes alive, scoring a much-needed 109-83 victory over TNT Sunday at the Big Dome.
Following a strong 2-0 start, Northport suffered six straight losses and was on the brink of elimination. That drought stopped as the Batang Pier delivered a sharp peformance against the KaTropa.
Now at 3-6, Northport still has a shot of crashing the playoffs.
"Actually, yung talo namin last five or six games, puro breaks of the game lang. Basta ako, di banderang kapos, we're not making shots, yung kalaban namin nakaka-shoot," head coach Pido Jarencio said.
"Ngayon naman, parang perfect game first half hanggang second half. Habulin namin playoffs, basta one game at a time," he added.
Northport established early control right in the opening period. Come the second, the Batang Pier landed their first haymaker, taking a 53-31 lead at the break.
The KaTropa responded early in the third with a strong run of their own but Northport would stand it ground and cruise to the convincing victory.
Stanley Pringle was the star for the Batang Pier, scoring a game-high 27 points. The rest of the Big 3 also came through as Sean Anthony and Mo Tautuaa added 14 and 13 points respectively.
TNT was stopped dead in its tracks with a five-game run coming to a brutal end. The KaTropa lost a shot at top-2 seed and finished the elimination round with a 7-4 record.
Don Trollano led TNT with 15 points.
