PBA: TNT escapes pesky Columbian to notch 5th straight win
At 7-3, the KaTropa are only a half game back of idle Rain or Shine for second place. TNT holds the head-to-head tiebreaker against the Elasto Painters.

ANTIPOLO CITY, Rizal — TNT’s mid-conference tear continues.

The KaTropa used a strong second half to down a pesky Columbian side Friday at the Ynares Center here, picking up a 101-98 win in the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup.

Now winners of five straight games, TNT remains as the hottest team in the All-Filipino and the KaTropa are now knocking on the door of a top-2 finish and a twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals.

At 7-3, the KaTropa are only a half game back of idle Rain or Shine for second place. TNT holds the head-to-head tiebreaker against the Elasto Painters.

“Hindi pwedeng mag-relax, naka-habol yung kalaban. Buti na lang medyo may cushion kami sa lamang namin,” head coach Bong Ravena said.

“I hope it won’t happen again,” he added.

TNT was up 10 at the break and put together an 18-point lead late in the third,  71-53.

However, the KaTropa lost almost all of it in the fourth as the Dyip made it a three-point game with possession in the final 18 seconds.

Fortunately, TNT’s defense came through and forced two misses from deep from Rashawn McCarthy as the KaTropa managed to escape a collapse.

Five players scored in double figures for TNT led by Jayson Castro with 20. Ryan Reyes and Troy Rosario had 19 each.

The story for the KaTropa was their defense though. The team recorded a franchise record 21 steals, which is just two off from the PBA all-time high.

Kelly Williams had a team-high four steams while Jericho Cruz, RR Pogoy, and Castro all had three apiece.

Columbian got 22 points from no. 1 pick CJ Perez but the Dyip lost a second straight game for a 4-7 mark. The Dyip now wait if they even make the playoffs or not.
