CALASIAO, Pangasinan — Rey Guevarra gets his own page in the PBA history book.
Friday here for the 2019 PBA All-Star Games, Guevarra won a historic fifth Slam Dunk title, beating Renz Palma and CJ Perez in the final round.
Fafa Rey tied KG Canaleta for most Slam Dunk titles in history, establishing himself as one of the best performers in the PBA’s annual extravaganza.
Guevarra was first place in the preliminary round, scoring 95 points. He was challenged in the final by Palma and Perez who both scored 86 points.
Blackwater’s Palma started the final round with this dunk.
He was followed by Perez.
Fafa Rey matched Palma with a perfect 50 of his own, setting up one last dunk off.
For his final attempt, Palma tried to go all-in. The Blackwater reserve had Beau Belga throw a pass from the stands but the stunt proved to be difficult to execute without prior practice.
With time running out, had to settle for a simpler dunk. He missed.
Guevarra then closed things out with this gem.
Hands up for the now five-time champ.
