CALASIAO, Pangasinan — Arwind Santos came through in a lot of ways Sunday here for the 2019 PBA All-Star Game.
Santos led the North All-Stars to an incredibly-fun dance performance that lasted a good six minutes.
In the actual All-Star Game, he led all scorers with 34 points and grabbed 17 rebounds for good measure.
Santos’ effort was reward with an MVP award that he shared with Ginebra’s Japeth Aguilar but there will be no sharing of the actual trophy.
That one goes to Arwind.
“Akala ko si Japeth na eh, nagulat ako,” Santos said on winning co-MVP with Aguilar.
“Hindi ako nag-dalawang isip na sabihin kay Japeth, ‘Japeth akin na yung trophy ah, sayo na yung susunod,’” he added.
Santos was clearly having fun in Pangasinan, and part it was helping through charity.
The All-Stars raised 82 wheelchairs with the help of Double V Productions. The number was attained through a record 45 triples and 37 dunks.
Combined with the 44 wheelchairs raised during the RSJ game Friday, the All-Star Weekend generated 126 wheelchairs that will be sent to Alagang PBA.
“Maliban sa gusto namin mapa-saya yung mga taga Pangasinan, gusto rin naming maraming mai-donate,” he said.
“Kasi bawat dunk may isang wheelchair, napaka-laking bagay sa amin yun. Kaya binigay namin yung best namin para dumami yung dunks,” Santos added.
Aside from making the Calasiao fans happy, Arwind loved the way that he and the rest of the All-Stars were able to share the experience together.
He hopes that it stays the same even as the PBA is about to heat up with the Philippine Cup playoffs on the horizon.
“Ang masaya rito, alam ko yung mga kasama ko eh, parang isang team kami, parang hindi kami magkaka-ibang team,” he said.
“Sobrang ganoon kami. Sana lagi kaming ganoon kahit na magkaka-laban kami,” Santos added.
