Brgy. Ginebra’s playoff spot has been officially clinched.

The Gin Kings now play the waiting game as their 86-76 win over Meralco Wednesday at the Big Dome allowed them to secure a top-3 finish in the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup.

Though Ginebra still has one game left, the Gin Kings secure the no. 3 seed with a 7-3 record. They will figure in a best-of-3 quarterfinals against the no. 6 seed next week.

After a rough first half where they only took a one-point lead, the Gin Kings started to create separation in the third period.

Ginebra broke a 39-all tie with a 12-0 blast for and the Gin Kings eventually led by 15 early in the final period.

The Bolts made it interesting inside the last two minutes, cutting the deficit to six but Meralco lacked a killer blow and the barangay coasted for the win.

Despite the win, Ginebra head coach Tim Cone was not exactly happy with the end as Raymond Aguilar made a meaningless shot in garbage time.

Coach Tim is pretty adamant about his stand agaisnt quotient shots and to see one of his one make and take one had him fuming.

“I’m furious at Raymond for taking that last shot. I make a big deal about that and then I have a giy that goes out there and does it,” he said.

“Sorry to Norman [Black] and Meralco for that last shot. I’m really sorry,” he added.

Greg Slaughter was a force for Ginebra, leading the team with 18 points and nine rebounds. Japeth Aguilar added 12 while gunners Kevin Ferrer andd Jeff Chan had 11 points each.

Meralco, who was eliminated after a Northport win in the first game, got 18 points from rookie Trevis Jackson who played a starting role.

The Bolts wrapped up the All-Filipino with a 3-8 record.
