Magnolia (5-5) can clinch no. 6 and set up a Manila Clasico quarterfinals with a win against NLEX.
The 2019 PBA Philippine Cup is down to the last day and the playoffs will take shape after the final two games of the elimination round.
The top-5 seeds are Phoenix, Rain or Shine, Ginebra, TNT, and San Miguel in that order and that will not change regardless of Wednesday’s results.
However, the last three seeds are still up for grabs and three of the four teams in the running will be playing.
The first 4:30 p.m. game betwenn Magnolia and NLEX is the most crucial.
Magnolia (5-5) can clinch no. 6 and set up a Manila Clasico quarterfinals with a win. The Hotshots can also take the 6th seed with a loss but provided Northport beats the Gin Kings in the second game at 7:00 p.m.
If that scenario happens, Alaska is automatically out of the running.
The Road Warriors (4-6), can jump to 6th under only one scenario. NLEX needs a win and a Ginebra win to jump to no. 6, setting up a playoff date against the Gin Kings.
Under such scenario, Magnolia is 7th and Northport will have a rematch with Alaska for the 8th seed.
NLEX is 7th with a win and a Northport win. At the very least, the Road Warriors will have one more chance at a playoff even if they lose to the Hotshots.
Northport gets to 7th with a win over Ginebra and an NLEX win. The Batang Pier also get to no. 7 with a win and a Magnolia victory.
Northport has no shot at 6th and they have a playoff against Alaska for 8th if they lose.
The Gin Kings pretty much play a no bearing game for themselves as they wrapped up the 3rd seed before the All-Star break.
