Robert Bolick comes alive at just the right time.
Northport’s rookie came through in the clutch as the Batang Pier escaped Brgy. Ginebra, 100-97, in the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup Wednesday at the Big Dome.
Down two, Bolick drilled a booming triple with 52 seconds to go to push Northport up, 98-97.
After a stop, Stanley Pringle then scored two insurance free throws and Northport took over the no. 7 seed in the playoffs.
After six straight losses, the Batang Pier won three straight to close out and will face Rain or Shine in the quarterfinals. The Elasto Painters hold a twice-to-beat advantage.
”We’re back in business, kahit papaano. We’re in the quarters,” said head coach Pido Jarencio.
”Regarding this game, si Robert made the big shot. Yun lang, basta kami we did well on our last three games and yun nga, nakapasok kami outright. Blessing na din for the team,” he added as the Batang Pier recovered from six straight losses in the middle of the All-Filipino to advance.
Northport controlled most of the game but failed to land the finishing blow on the Gin Kings, a team already assured of the no. 3 seed since last week.
Still, the Batang Pier did enough, all thanks to Bolick and Pringle, to complete an incredible comeback from near-elimination to the playoffs.
Bolick, the no. 3 pick of the previous Draft, finally regained his touch and fired for 24 points to lead all scorers. Sean Anthony added 19 for Northport while Mo Tautuaa finished with 17.
For the Gin Kings, it was Greg Slaughter that led the way with 14 points. Ginebra will be locked with Magnolia in a Manila Clasico quarters starting Saturday.
