Alaska is still alive and kicking in the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup and the hero for the Aces’ new leash on life is none other than Sonny Thoss.
In the year of our Lord 2019, Thoss is still out there getting buckets, anchoring Alaska to crucial wins late in the conference.
Friday against NLEX in a sudden death playoff for the 8th seed, Thoss was Alaska’s anchor, leading all scorers with 21 points.
But more than his scoring, it’s his veteran leadership on defense that help drive the severely-undermanned Aces to victory.
“First of all, it was a great team effort on defense,” Thoss said.
“My scoring, I got lucky with my shots going in. But defensively, we did a good job as a team so that was the main positive there,” he added.
Maintaining that defensive mindset is going to be for Alaska moving forward.
The Aces take on no. 1 Phoenix to officially start the playoffs and Thoss says they need to definitely bring it in order to have a chance to survive.
“That’s a tough series right there,” he said.
“But for the first game, we gotta get ready or else we’re done. Defensive mindset, that’s the main thing coming in,” Thoss added.
