Terrence Romeo is a winner in his first matchup opposite former team TNT
Terrence Romeo's inspired play proved to be a big part of San Miguel's triumph over TNT in Game 1 of their quarterfinals series in the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup.
Romeo dropped a team-high 15 points on top of two assists and two rebounds, with four of those points coming in a spurt early in the final frame that completed the Beermen's comeback from as much as 16 points down.
Make no mistake, however, this is not because he was facing the KaTropa, the team he briefly played for in 2018.
Asked if this game meant more to him, personally, the 27-year-old answered, "No, no. Pareho lang sa lahat ng nilaruan kong playoffs. Same lang na ginawa ko lang kung anong kailangan para mag-move forward kami as a team."
This is the first time that Romeo played TNT wearing a San Miguel jersey. He missed the two teams' meeting in the elimination round due to a foot injury.
The scoring guard reiterated, however, that this series is all about two of the league's most storied squads - and not about a player taking on his former team. "Excited ako makalaro ulit sila, pero 'di naman Terrence versus TNT," he said.
He then continued, San Miguel versus TNT 'to so ang goal is manalo ang team."
