The Beermen remain as the toughst mountain to scale in the PBA but with the KaTropa’s strong stand in the fourth quarter of Game 2, they have proven that San Miguel is vulnerable in the All-Filipino.
In Game 1 of its Philippine Cup quarterfinals series against defending champion San Miguel Beer, TNT controlled most of the game.
But when the Beermen made a run late, the KaTropa folded and San Miguel stole a series-opening win, 80-78.
Game 2 Monday followed pretty much the same script with the KaTropa taking control from the second quarter on.
This time around though, when the Beermen threatened to pull off another last-minute win, TNT stood its ground and closed things out behind its star guard Jayson Castro.
Castro was cool in the clutch, first finding an open Troy Rosario for an open triple that broke an 86-all tie in the final minute.
About 30 seconds later, the Blur beat Fajardo at the baseline to score the game’s dagger layup.
Castro finished with 19 points and nine assists in the victory.
“Yung execution namin nung huli, maganda,” Castro said.
“At yung composure namin nandoon. Nung lumamang sila nung first game, nawala na kami. Ngayong Game 2, malaki yung difference,” he added.
As both Perpetual Champions move on to a sudden death in Game 3, Castro believes his team now has an actual chance.
The Beermen remain as the toughst mountain to scale in the PBA but with the KaTropa’s strong stand in the fourth quarter, they have proven that San Miguel is vulnerable in the All-Filipino.
“Alam namin natin San Miguel di ba, napaka-lakas na team. Kami yun lang motivation namin, gusto namin maka-pasok sa semis,” Castro said.
“Malaking bagay [Game 2 win], kasi yun nga, at least alam namin na kaya namin manalo sa kanila,” he added.
