PBA: Wright on Phoenix’s historic win: “This is a big deal”
“This is a big deal for us. But we’re far from done,” — Matthew Wright.

It’s just one playoff win in the first round but for Phoenix, the decisive win against Alaska Sunday in the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup quarterfinals is a big deal.

Why?

It’s the team’s first-ever playoff win. The Fuel Masters were 0-6 prior to Sunday.

The win also meant that Phoenix was going to its first-ever trip to the PBA semifinals where they will take on one Perpetual champion in either TNT or four-time winner San Miguel Beer.

It’s just one playoff win in the first round but oh yes, this is a big deal for Phoenix.

“It feels good. It’s good to get the monkey off our back,” guard Matthew Wright said.

“We haven’t gotten a playoff win since I got here, actually ever,” he added.

Getting that first win is great but the top-ranked Fuel Masters are looking to ride it’s record-breaking campaign to even greater heights.

Phoenix wants more than just a semifinal appearance. But for one night, this historic playoff win is still good.

“This is first postseason win as a franchise so I’m happy to be a part of history, even if it’s just small, this means a lot to the franchise,” Wright said.

“This is a big deal for us. But we’re far from done,” he added.
