PBA: Wright welcomes TNT-SMB challenge in semis
“We gotta beat the best teams to win a championship. We’re not gonna waltz our way to the Finals and win a championship easy,” — Matthew Wright.

Phoenix finally managed to breakthrough.

By smashing the Alaska Aces Sunday, the Fuel Masters won their first playoff game in franchise history and booked their ticket to their first-ever PBA semifinals appearance.

It was a big deal for the young team but Phoenix says they’re not quite done just yet.

The top-ranked Fuel Masters know that they deeper they get in the playoffs, the stronger the opponents are.

If Phoenix is to build up on its breakthrough semis win and ultimately, hopefully, win a title, the Fuel Masters will have to go through the very best PBA teams.

Bring it on.

“That’s fun,” guard Matthew Wright said as they’re sure to face a Perpetual champion in the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup semifinals.

“We gotta beat the best teams to win a championship. We’re not gonna waltz our way to the Finals and win a championship easy,” he added.

Phoenix’s bracket will have them deal with one Perpetual champion in the semifinals whether it’s TNT or defending four-time champion San Miguel Beer.

If the Fuel Masters continue with their breakout campaign, waiting in the Finals would be Rain or Shine, Ginebra, or Magnolia. All champions in the last three years.

Phoenix welcomes the challenge with supreme confidence.

“We're gonna go against Talk ‘N Text, we're gonna go against Rain or Shine, we're gonna go against San Miguel, we're gonna go against Ginebra, Magnolia. There’s no easy route to the Finals,” Wright said.

“We're not avoiding anybody, we gotta go through these teams. We like our chances too,” he added.
