PBA: ROS and Magnolia open Philippine Cup semis
Spicing up this series is the fact that both teams engaged in a blockbuster trade a couple of season back when they exchanged guards in James Yap and Paul Lee.

And then there were four.

The 2019 PBA Philippine Cup will have the semifinals tip off Friday and up first will be no. 2 Rain or Shine taking on no. 6 Magnolia for Game 1 of their best-of-7 series.

Well-rested and ready to go, the Elasto Painters advance by taking down Northport in one game during the quarterfinals. It’s the second time in three conferences that ROS made it to the semis and this All-Filipino performance has been a nice recovery ever since the team missed the playoffs in the 2018 Governors’ Cup.

One team that didn’t miss the Governors’ Cup playoffs was Magnolia. In fact, the Hotshots won the whole thing.

After winning Manila Clasico again, Magnolia tries to get another shot at winning the Philippine Cup but this time, the Hotshots have to go through a seasoned ROS team unlike last year when they beat a very fresh NLEX squad in the semifinals in six games.

Spicing up this series is the fact that both teams engaged in a blockbuster trade a couple of season back when they exchanged guards in James Yap and Paul Lee.

Of course, both teams have largely moved on but this will be the first long series for both teams against each other and second overall since the trade. The Hotshots won a short first round series two years ago and ROS should want some payback for that.

Tip off for the series opener is set for 7:00 p.m. Friday at the Big Dome.
