PBA: Fuel Masters challenge champion San Miguel in semis
Easily the most impressive team of this year’s All-Filipino, Phoenix took the no. 1 seed with a 9-2 record in the elimination round.

Phoenix will have its biggest All-Filipino test so far.

The top-ranked Fuel Masters play their first-ever PBA semifinals game Saturday and their opponents are none other than the San Miguel Beermen, the reigning and defending four-time champions of the Philippine Cup.

Easily the most impressive team of this year’s All-Filipino, Phoenix took the no. 1 seed with a 9-2 record in the elimination round.

The Fuel Masters then achieved a pair of team milestones last week, smashing the Alaska Aces in the quarterfinals to advance.

Meanwhile, the Beermen have been up-and-down this conference but the champs flipped the switch just in time to eliminate rival TNT in the first round, 2-1.

San Miguel’s drive for five will now have them face-to-face against Phoenix, the team that beat them earlier this season in dramatic fashion.

The Fuel Masters escaped the Beermen in an out-of-town game last month to clincht the number one seed. If that showdown is any indication, then this best-of-7 series should be filled with fireworks.

Game 1 is set for 6:30 p.m. Saturday at MOA.
