Saturday for Game 1 against the top-ranked Phoenix in the semifinals, June Mar was down again, this time falling face first to the MOA Arena floor following a rebound play.
June Mar Fajardo continues to take some major punishment in the ongoing 2019 PBA Philippine Cup playoffs.
In the fourth quarter of Game 2 of their quarterfinals clash against TNT, Fajardo hurt his knee and was clearly not 100 percent late as the Beermen dropped a close decision.
Saturday for Game 1 against the top-ranked Phoenix in the semifinals, June Mar was down again, this time falling face first to the MOA Arena floor following a rebound play in the second quarter.
The PBA’s reigning five-time Most Valuable Player was on the floor for a couple of minutes before he walked to his own bench. He was later taken to the dugout before the halftime break.
Fajardo managed to return in the second half, ultimately fouling out in the fourth quarter. He finished with nine points and nine rebounds and 25 minutes.
Asked about his condition, June Mar insists he’s fine though he’s naturally feeling some pain.
“Okay naman, good thing hindi naman seryoso,” he said.
“Tinanong nila ako kung gusto ko maglaro [second half], syempre gusto ko maglaro. Masakit nung bumagsak. Pero okay naman, pahinga kami bukas,” he added.
Looks like Fajardo will just rest and ice this one out and is expected to play in Game 2.
Taking some punishment in San Miguel’s latest title defense, June Mar also expects that the physicality towards him will persists. He’ll just have to power through.
“Syempre playoffs na, expected na hindi easy. Hindi naman easy talaga. Kailangan lang maging matatag,” he said.
Clearly the biggest piece to San Miguel’s championship puzzle, his team and his fans can rest easy that the league’s most dominant player is fine.
He already has jokes to prove it.
