Fajardo played almost 40 minutes in Game 2 and for practically every second he was on the floor, he was hit with so many bumps and saw too many double teams that the reigning five-time MVP is actually starting to get frustrated.
June Mar Fajardo’s punishment in these PBA Philippine Cup playoffs continued on Holy Monday during Game 2 of San Miguel Beer’s semifinals series against Phoenix.
It was another physical affair between the four-time champion Beermen and their no. 1 contenders in the Fuel Masters and June Mar once again received most of the body blows.
Fajardo played almost 40 minutes and for practically every second he was on the floor, he was hit with so many bumps and saw too many double teams that the reigning five-time MVP is actually starting to get frustrated.
“Nagtitimpi na ako,” said the most gentle of all the giants.
Still, while he’s taking all this punishment, Fajardo is doing an incredible job of keeping his cool and not actually engaging on Phoenix’s obvious ploy to get him sidetracked with physical play.
June Mar continues to deliver for San Miguel Beer and after fouling out in Game 1, Fajardo finished Game 2 with a nice double-double of 19 points and 18 rebounds.
The Beermen now lead the best-of-7, 2-0.
“Pag papatol ako sa physicality, mawawala ako sa game eh,” June Mar said.
“Tina-try ko lang mag-focus kasi nga ayoko mawala sa game. Gusto ko, gusto namin manalo. Pag nawala ako sa game, mahirap. So as much as possible, kailangan kong umiwas. Hindi naman sa umiwas, pero hindi ko na lang papatulan,” he added.
