PBA: Magnolia trims series deficit with big Game 3 win
The victory allowed Magnolia to cut its series deficit in half, 1-2.

No sweep.

Magnolia finally found an answer for Rain or Shine and the Hotshots finally got a one back in the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup semifinals, scoring a much-needed 85-74 Game 3 win Tuesday at the Big Dome.

The Hotshots’ signature defense kicked in, holding Rain or Shine scoreless in the last four minutes as they slowly pulled away for the win.

The victory allowed Magnolia to cut its series deficit in half, 1-2.

“We just tried to bring back Magnolia Hotshots basketball which is [a] more defensive-minded team. I told them na kailangan naming ibalik yon—our aggressiveness, energy even though we’re tired and we’re [playing] seven games in 14 nights. Wala kaming magagawa, that’s our identity eh,” head coach Chito Victolero said.

“Now I think nakabalik lang kami, pero yun nga lamang parin sila sa series and yun nga ang magnda lang dito we still have a chance,” he added.

Ian Sangalang gave his team a chance on offense, scoring 12 points in the fourth quarter while the Magnolia defense held ROS to only 11 points in total in the final period.

Sangalang scored 16 points and Paul Lee scored 16 as well to lead the Magnolia offense. They were the only Hotshots to finish in double figures.

Meanwhile, rookie Javee Mocon scored 18 for ROS but it was not enough for a third straight win in these semis.

Game 4 will be on Monday, April 22, as the PBA takes a break for Holy Week.
