The hardest part of any series is the closeout game and the Magnolia Hotshots are well aware of that.
With a win in Game 5 Wednesday, Magnolia has erased its earlier 0-2 deficit in the PBA Philippine Cup semifinals and now leads Rain or Shine, 3-2.
The Hotshots can close it in Game 6 and the team is out to make sure the series never goes a full seven.
“Game 6 sobrang hirap na. Kasi pinakamahirap sa series yung pang-close na eh,” guard Mark Barroca said.
“Kasi parang back against the wall na yung kalaban so kami ganun din mentality namin. Yung energy na bibigay nila, tatapatan namin at tataasan pa,” he added.
Magnolia certainly has some experience with closing out Game 6s.
In the Philippine Cup semifinals two years ago, the Hotshots lost a 3-2 lead to Brgy. Ginebra and lost in seven games.
Last season in the Governors’ Cup, Magnolia followed up with the same lead and beat Alaska in 6 for its first championship in four years.
The Hotshots are determined to get the latter result as they go against ROS again on Friday.
“Ngayon na nanalo kami, wala pa kailangan i-celebrate kasi marami na naging 3-2 tapos natalo. Ayaw namin mangyari samin yun,” Barroca said.
“Hopefully makuha namin yung next, kasi pag nakuha nila yung Game 6 ibang storya na naman eh. Pipilitin na namin makuha yung Game 6 sa Friday, yun yung mentality ng team namin,” he added.
