PBA: San Miguel legacy on the line as Beermen go for 5-peat
If the Beermen complete a five-peat, their case as the greatest team in PBA history only becomes stronger.

San Miguel Beer has ruled the PBA Philippine Cup for four straight years now and after a Game 5 win Thursday against Phoenix in the 2019 semifinals, the Beermen are on their way to a fifth straight All-Filipino Finals.

Four Philippine Cup titles in four straight years is already an unprecedented feat.

If the Beermen complete a five-peat, their case as the greatest team in PBA history only becomes stronger.

San Miguel is well aware of that and so while this batch has no Grand Slam to show for, they’re concerned about doing something literally no team has doen before.

Legacies will be on the line as the Beermen go for five straight All-Filipino titles.

“Dito kami masusubukan, dito namin mapapakita kung talagang kami yung best team. Kahit patay na kami, pag nakuha namin yung pang-limang championship, paguusapan at paguusapan yan,” forward Arwind Santos said as the Beermen brace for the challenge of either Magnolia or Rain or Shine in the championship round.

“Sino lang nakagawa nito? San Miguel. Legacy. Ayaw namin bitawan eh, lahat naman ng players gusto nasa sitwasyon na ganito. Sana kami yung una [five-peat],” he added.

After surviving a physical Phoenix team in the semis, and a physical TNT in the round before, Arwind says the Beermen are ready for the Finals.

He hopes that after enduring all that punishment in the previous two rounds, the four-time champs are already solid as a rock and ready to take whatever in the championship stage.

“Sobrang nakatulong samin [physical play], sana magamit namin no? Hindi sa pangit na paraan, sa magandang paraan. Sabi nga ng mga coaches namin, nalagpasan namin TNT at Phoenix, parang kayang-kaya na namin yung Finals,” Arwind said.

“Syempre hindi ganun kadali yun pero sa tingin ko malaki yung naitulong niotng mga game namin sa quarters at semis,” he added.
