A challenge regardless as Beermen wait for Finals opponent
“Kahit sino, pareho naman malakas. Wala naman mahina doon sa kabila,” June Mar said of their possible Finals opponent.

Regardless of the opponent, San Miguel Beer is the overwhelming favorite in the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup Finals.

The Beermen are loaded and this will be their fifth straight appearance in the All-Filipino Finals.

San Miguel won the previous four Finals by the way, if for some reason you’re not aware.

However, what’s in the past is irrelevant as the Beermen go for an incredible 5th straight Philippine Cup title.

The focus is in the now, not in the previous titles they’ve won.

“Wala na yun, past na yun [four-peat]. Sa ngayon focus kami sa Finals ngayon,” said five-time MVP June Mar Fajardo.

“Gusto namin manalo pero alam naman namin na hindi ganoon kadali kasi yung kabilang team na papasok sa Finals, for sure gusto rin nila manalo. Wag lang kampante,” he added.

The Beermen wrapped up their semifinals series against Phoenix in five games and as of now, San Miguel is waiting for either Magnolia or Rain or Shine.

On the other side of the bracket, the Hotshots lead, 3-2.

“Kahit sino, pareho naman malakas. Wala naman mahina doon sa kabila,” June Mar said of their possible Finals opponent.

“Sa ngayon kailangan namin magpahinga, antayin namin kung sino ang kalaban namin and paghahandaan namin,” he added.

Going after a fifth straight title means going after history for SMB.

Even as battle-tested as they are, this is some unfamiliar territory for the champs. The pressure is there but if there’s one team that handles pressure well, it’s San Miguel.

“Nandyan naman lagi ang pressure,” Fajardo said.

“Hindi naman mawawala yan, pero kaya naman ma-minimize. Kailangan lang namin maglaro as a team and tiwala lang, sundin lang ang game plan,” he added.
