PBA: Nambatac steps up big time as ROS gets Game 6 win
Nambatac fired four triples in the fourth quarter of Game 6 for ROS, serving as the difference as the Elasto Painters forced Game 7 against Magnolia.

ANTIPOLO CITY, Rizal — ROS needed a spark.

With Game 6 tied at 62 after three quarters, the second-ranked Elasto Painters needed something extra to get a win and stay alive in the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup semifinals.

ROS has lost three straight games to give up a 3-2 lead, each loss coming in the fourth quarter as the Elasto Painters failed to close.

So with 12 minutes to go in a do-or-die game, ROS needed a spark to change the course of its All-Filipino conference.

Enter Rey Nambatac.

Nambatac fired four triples in the fourth quarter of Game 6 for ROS, serving as the difference as the Elasto Painters forced Game 7 against Magnolia.

The former Letran Knight scored 13 points in the final period for a total of 16.

He knew he would have a chance eventually and when the chance came, he pounced on it.

“Ready lang ako. Kasi start ng third quarter hanggang matapos, medyo hindi ako nabunot agad ni coach Caloy eh. Pero mindset ko pa rin nun, anytime papasok na ako,” Nambatac said.

“So nung pinasok na nga ako, ang kagandahan dun nakapag-step up talaga ako, which is much needed kasi nga yung ibang wings namin naka-focus na sa depensa, kulang-kulang na yung offense namin. Dun ako medyo nag-focus na,” he added.

With their backs against the wall, ROS knew that they would have to win Game 6 together as a team.

They did just that as six players scored at least eight points for the Elasto Painters and four cracked double digits.

“Yung teamwork namin, hindi namin inaalis,” Nambatac said.

“Yun lagi naming sinasabi na mananalo at mananalo pag sama-sama. Dapat laging one way,” he added.

With this series now reduced to a one-game showdown,  Nambatac says that ROS knows the opportunity that they have on their hands.

Win and you advance to the Philippine Cup Finals. Win and you get to compete for the most prestigious title in the Philippines.

“Sobrang importante tong conference na to, All-Filipino. Sobrang laki ng chance namin na mag-Finals and at the same time, mag-champion,” he said.

“Kaming Rain or Shine, known kami na kaya namin makipag-compete as All-Filipino eh, nagre-rely kami sa bawa’t isa, hindi lang sa isa o dalawang tao. Yun siguro yung pinaka-bread and butter namin,” Nambatac added.
