“Ibang usapan na ngayon,” as MAG takes 1-0 Finals lead anew
“Ibang usapan na ngayon, marami na kaming pinagdaanan,” top forward Ian Sangalang said.

In the 2018 PBA Philippine Cup Finals, Magnolia won a close game to start the series and opened with a 1-0 lead.

San Miguel then responded with four straight wins to take the title after five games.

In the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup Finals, Magnolia again won a close game to start the series and now open with a 1-0 lead.

It’s supposed to be different now according to the Hotshots.

“Ibang usapan na ngayon, marami na kaming pinagdaanan,” top forward Ian Sangalang said.

In the year since the 2018 All-Filipino Finals loss, Magnolia got its championship by ruling the 2018 Governors’ Cup.

By that title alone, this Hotshots group is way different from last year even though it’s mostly the same players.

“Lagi ko sinasabi na maniwala kami na kaya namin mag-champion, kaya namin silang talunin basta maniwala lang kami,” Sangalang added.

In order to have a chance against the mighty Beermen, Magnolia has to pretty much apply pressure for the full 48 minutes of the game.

By being up 1-0, that pressure now extends to San Miguel practice as the Hotshots are forcing the champs to adjust this early in the series.

However, Magnolia has to stay on its toes as well. Last year’s 1-0 lead didn’t exactly pan out.

“Malaking bagay yung maka-una ka talaga, parang meron ka ng baon,” Sangalang said.

“Pero sa next game di ka pwedeng maging relax dyan kasi once na makuha namin next game pupunta sa kanila yung pressure, at pag ma-pressure namin sila, magkakaroon sila ng sakit ng ulo para gawan kami ng paraan. Buhos kami next game,” he added.
