PBA Finals: Hotshots say they learned their lesson from 2018
The Hotshots were up 1-0 too in the 2018 Finals before losing four straight to the Beermen.

Taking another one-game lead in the PBA Philippine Cup Finals against defending champion San Miguel Beer, Magnolia says that it has learned its lesson.

The Hotshots were up 1-0 too in the 2018 Finals before losing four straight to the Beermen.

After taking a similar 1-0 lead in the 2019 rematch, Magnolia is bracing for its first true test come Game 2 of the series Friday.

“It’s a learning experience para samin. Kaya nga sabi ko sa kanila di yan natatapos dito,” head coach Chito Victolero said.

“We know na talagang babalik at babalik ang San Miguel, but natuto din kami doon. Ang kailangan lang talaga namin gawin is to settle down and again, prepare hard for Friday’s game,” he added.

Looking to avoid another monumental beatdown in 2019, the Hotshots are relying on the championship experience they picked up in the year since losing the first All-Filipino Finals to the Beermen.

That composure proved to be the difference in Game 1 but can Magnolia sustain it for a seven-game series is another question altogether.

“We improved a lot siguro in terms of maturity and experience because since nung Philippine Cup Finals [2018], natuto na din yung core ng team na to,” Victolero said.

“Natuto kami doon sa experience na yun, hindi natatapos sa one game. And also, we experienced it last conference, this conference. We were down 0-1 Ginebra. We won the last two. We were down 0-2 against ROS, we won the series. So yun yung mga experience na madala namin,” he added.
