PBA Finals: Balanced Beermen give emphatic answer in Game 2
Two games in, the 2019 All-Filipino Finals has followed the same script of the 2018 version with Magnolia scoring a shocker to start only to have the champion Beermen dominate in Game 2.

Oh San Miguel answered alright.

The Beermen are on the board in the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup Finals after the defending four-time champions overwhelmed Magnolia in Game 2 Friday at the Big Dome, 108-101.

After the Game 1 stunner last Wednesday, San Miguel recovered rather quickly to issue an emphatic statement, tying the best-of-7 series at one game each.

Two games in, the 2019 All-Filipino Finals has followed the same script of the 2018 version with Magnolia scoring a shocker to start only to have the champion Beermen dominate in Game 2.

“We’re so glad that we’re able to tie the series,” head coach Leo Austria said.

“We have to step up, especially on defense. What we need to do is to show some energy and that’s it,” he added.

The Beermen went to work in the middle quarters, slowly building a 21-point lead.

That was more than enough even if the the Hotshots made a late rally by pouring 35 points in the fourth.

San Miguel still shot in the low 40s but the Beermen got production across the board, which was key in this win.

Seven players finished in double figures led by five-time MVP June Mar Fajardo and Alex Cabagnot with 16 points apiece.

Chris Ross and Marcio Lassiter added 15 each for the champs.

For the Hotshots, they just couldn’t keep in step with San Miguel’s star power in this game and will be hardpressed to respond in Game 3.

Ian Sangalang led all scorers with 18 points while Jio Jalalon added 15 for Magnolia. The next game of this best-of-7 is set for Sunday still at the Araneta Coliseum.
