PBA Finals: Victolero on 2-1 lead: “Kailangan namin apat eh”

“But this is not yet over. We only have two wins, kailangan namin apat eh,” — Magnolia head coach Chito Victolero on 2-1 Finals lead.
A key storyline in the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup Finals is Magnolia’s supposed maturation following an embarrassing five-game loss to San Miguel Beer in the 2018 Finals.
Last year, the Hotshots won Game 1 of the series and went on to lose four straight.
In between the two All-Filipino Finals, the Hotshots won their own championship and that experience should be the difference as they challenge the Beermen for the Philippine Cup once again.
Three games in, Magnolia has inspired some changes, getting that elusive second win to take a 2-1 lead in the best-of-7 series.
“We matured a lot,” head coach Chito Victolero said.
“So kailangan lang siguro na ma over-the-hump lang yung everything na nangyari samin, which is nagagawa naman namin,” he added.
True enough, Magnolia under the guidance of Victolero has been all about getting over certain humps.
In the Hotshots’ first full season under Victolero, they made the semis in all three conference but failed to advance to the Finals not even once.
Last year, Magnolia badly lost the Philippine Cup Finals and struggled in the Commissioner’s Cup before turning around to win the Governors’ Cup.
“Two years ago, we’re always in the semis, tapos naka Finals kami, di kami nakaka-champion,” Victolero said.
“But china-challenge namin isa’t isa. And yung mga goals naman namin na-achieve namin,” he added.
The goal now is to win the Philippine Cup, which would be the franchise’s first in five years.
Winning the Philippine Cup now also ends the incredible San Miguel dynasty.
“But this is not yet over. We only have two wins, kailangan namin apat eh,” Victolero said.
“So maganda lang, lamang lang kami. It’s not yet over,” he added.
