PBA Finals: Magnolia defense to adjust anew after June Mar‘s “perfect game”

“That’s the story of the game. We need to do a better job at June Mar next game, almost 100 percent shooting niya,” — Magnolia head coach Chito Victolero.
The reason why Magnolia lost Game 4 of the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup Finals really boils down to just one thing.
The Hotshots didn’t stop five-time MVP June Mar Fajardo.
June Mar shot 13 out of 14 from the field for 31 points for San Miguel Beer, leading the Beermen to a series-tying 114-98 win. He added another 14 rebounds just for good measure.
“Medyo na-dominate ni June Mar yung game,” Magnolia head coach Chito Victolero said after the loss.
“That’s the story of the game. We need to do a better job at June Mar next game, almost 100 percent shooting niya,” he added.
Moving on to a pivotal Game 5, Victolero keeps his faith in his team.
The Hotshots have never been actually down in these Finals and they have proven that their defense can stop the high-powered San Miguel offense.
They’ll just have to do that again twice over the final three games.
“I love the effort and energy of my players. of course siyempre gusto rin talaga ng San Miguel [manalo]. Yung aggressiveness nila nandoon din. Maganda adjustment nila on how to give the ball to June Mar. So now turn naman namin on how to adjust,” Victolero said.
“Sabi ko nga sa mga players ko, kailangan pumunta sa strength namin which is defense. kung mataas yung score malamang talo kami di kami pwedeng sumabay sa San Miguel sa opensa. It’s about our defensive mindset,” he added.
