PBA: No spoilers for Northport as Batang Pier win first game vs. Alaska

ANTIPOLO CITY, Rizal — No spoilers for Northport’s first game of the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
The Batang Pier started the mid-season joust on a high note, pounding the Alaska Aces, 103-81, Wednesday at the Ynares Center here.
Playing their first PBA game since being eliminated from the Philippine Cup at the hands of Alaska, the Batang Pier pulled away away in the fourth period to score the victory.
Northport even did it sans star guard Stanley Pringle who had to sit this one out after undergoing surgery to remove bone spurs.
“We just played 48 minutes of good basketball,” head coach Pido Jarencio said.
“Sabi ko nga sa kanila, since last year and last conference, hanggang third quarter lang kami eh. Pagdating ng fourth quarter, we’re not executing, we’re not playing defense. pero ngayon, kumpleto na eh no,” he added.
Up nine after three quarters, the Batang Pier turned it up in the last 12 minutes and ended up leading by as many as 24 points late.
Sean Anthony led all scorers with 22 points while rookie Robert Bolick added 19.
Batang Pier import Prince Ibeh also had 19 points to go along with 13 rebounds, three steals, and two blocks for a solic PBA debut.
For Alaska, import Chris Daniels led the way with 21 points. The Aces dropped to 1-1 with the loss.
