The effort was there, the energy was there. Kahit sinong ipasok, nandoon yung energy hindi nawawala. Offensively, susunod lang yan once we play good defense,” — LA Tenorio.
Down 11 at the break against Meralco, Ginebra was on its way to a 0-2 start in the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
Fortunately, the defending champion Gin Kings were able to turn things around quickly after halftime, starting with a 39-17 bomb in the third quarter to take control.
Ginebra then pulled away in the fourth for a strong 15-point win against the Bolts.
Despite dropping 110 points, it was the defense that was key for the barangay says top guard LA Tenorio.
“The effort was there compared last game. I'm talking about the defense,” LA said.
“The second half was completely different from the first half. We came out really strong, especially the group that started the second half,” he added.
After dropping an overtime decision against Blackwater to open their title defense, the Gin Kings were quick to adjust.
It certainly gave Ginebra a clear picture of what would work for the rest of its title defense.
“Good thing we learned from last game and now we can see the difference kung ano yung magwo-work para sa amin this conference. Nakita namin yung blueprint kung anong pwede naming gawin. We just have to be better at it,” Tenorio said.
“We have to play for 48 minutes na ganoong klase ng depensa. The effort was there, the energy was there. Kahit sinong ipasok, nandoon yung energy hindi nawawala. Offensively, susunod lang yan once we play good defense,” he added.
