“One game at a time, hindi pwedeng playoffs lang, kailangan talaga pwedeng semis o championship, kailangan mapunta doon, yun ang goal eh. Happy ako for the team,” — Northport coach Pido Jarencio said.
At least for one game, Northport has avoided the collapse its suffered from the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup.
The Batang Pier are off to a strong 3-0 start in the 2019 Commissioner’s Cup following an impressive 24-point beating of TNT Wednesday at the MOA Arena.
That’s pretty nice but Northport wants more. The Batang Pier are a perennial playoff team but that’s not quite enough.
It’s still quite early but Northport hopes this strong start can propel the team to new heights.
“I think nasa direction kami kung ano yung goal namin this conference,” head coach Pido Jarencio said.
“One game at a time, hindi pwedeng playoffs lang, kailangan talaga pwedeng semis o championship, kailangan mapunta doon, yun ang goal eh. Happy ako for the team,” he added.
In the All-Filipino, Northport started 2-0 before losiing six straight games.
That hole was too deep to get out of and the Batang Pier missed the playoffs. Northport is not going 2-6 now that’s for sure.
“Yung jinx na 2-0 tapos dumive kami, ngayon magandang start, 3-0. Tinalo namin yung isa sa mga contender dito sa liga kaya happy ako for the team,” Jarencio said.
“It's a team effort. Yun lang. Playing defense, yung game plan nasunod. Offensively, nakuha namin yung rhythm namin,” he added.
