PBA: Meralco spoils Rain or Shine’s conference debut
The win allowed Meralco to climb to an even 2-2 mark in the mid-season joust while spoling Rain or Shine’s debut in the conference.

Meralco continues its on-and-off campaign in the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

Fortunately, the Bolts were definitely on Friday at the MOA Arena, scoring a much-needed 91-84 victory.

The win allowed Meralco to climb to an even 2-2 mark in the mid-season joust while spoling Rain or Shine’s debut in the conference.

“Tough fourth game,” head coach Norman Black said.

“I was very happy to see us play defense tonight. Basically, it all started with our transition defense. Plus I thought our local players did a good job, hats off to my locals for standing up,” he added.

The typically-stout Meralco defense gave up 31 points right off the bat in the first quarter and 52 at the break.

But at the turn, the Bolts limited ROS to just 15 points in the third and just 17 in the fourth to swing the game in their favor.

Import Gani Lawal led a balanced attack with 19 points while Anjo Caram dropped 17 points.

Chris Newsome scored 16 and Ranidel De Ocampo added another 12 for Meralco.

For the Elasto Painters, Denzel Bowles put up 31 in a losing effort. Ed Daquiaog was ROS’ top local with 13 points.
