Brgy. Ginebra is having really close outings three games into its title defense in the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

After an overtime loss to start the conference, the Gin Kings got their close win Saturday, escaping Northport in a defensive struggle, 73-70.

Ginebra is at 2-1 for the conference after the victory.

“Man that was a tough game, credit to Northport,” import Justin Brownlee said.

“They played us very tough, they had a lot of players being very aggressive. We’re fortunate to escape with the win,” he added.

The conference has been anything but smooth so far for Ginebra and Brownlee says the Gin Kings are getting by through defense.

They’ll have to keep doing that in order to have a true shot at a second straight title.

“It just shows that we gotta put defense first I think,” Brownlee said.

“Some nights we’re not gonna make shots. Tonight we didn’t make a lot of them but we’re still playing defense. I think that was the most important thing for us, we’re locked in on defense,” he added.
