Ateneo still has business to take care of in the ongoing semifinals of the 2019 PBA D-League
Around time a year ago, Ateneo de Manila University was in Greece for a two week-long training camp.
This time around, however, the Blue Eagles have been grounded in Manila.
According to head coach Tab Baldwin, the two-time UAAP champions are yet to schedule overseas training.
And that is because they are currently in the stretch run of the 2019 PBA D-League. "Look, we would like to (do overseas training), but obviously, the D-League requirements will now carry us through June," the champion coach said.
He then continued, "Even if we get knocked out, we can't put chores together overnight so I don't think we're going anywhere in June which is unfortunate because we would like to."
Ateneo, carrying Cignal in the developmental league, is coming off a convincing victory versus Valencia-San Sebastian in Game 1 of the semifinals with Game 2 of their best-of-three series set for Thursday.
Whatever happens there, the schedule of the Katipunan ballers has been filled for the next two weeks.
And so, for now, the Blue Eagles are only hoping that there remains overseas training they could have in the next month. "We are trying to put something (together) in July, but right now, we're not sure," coach Tab said.
The Blue Eagles are three months away from trying to go for a three-peat in the UAAP 82 slated to tip off in September.
