Thirdy Ravena and Cignal-Ateneo are well aware they have much room for improvement
Cignal-Ateneo is into the Finals of the 2019 PBA D-League.
This, after an emphatic semifinals sweep of fellow powerhouse Valencia City-San Sebastian.
And this, after not being at full strength for most of the tournament as many of its players still had classes.
Of course, being in the championship round is nothing but a badge of honor for the Blue Eagles. "First off, I'm proud of the team. Ito kasi talaga yung test namin kung gumana yung pina-practice namin," Thirdy Ravena, who himself missed several games due to academic requirements, said.
Still, personifying the personality of head coach Tab Baldwin, the UAAP's two-time defending champions are well aware they have much room for improvement. Asked if they have been happy with that they have been showing, Ravena answered, "Sana. I'd like to think so, pero by the looks of it, marami pa ring kailangan i-improve."
He then continued, "That’s basketball. You can't be too content with what you have. It’s a continuous improvement na kelangan namin gawin."
And now, Cignal-Ateneo has at least five days to gear up for the next round.
If CEU triumphs over St. Clare-Virtual Reality in the ongoing game, Game 1 of the best-of-five Finals tips off next Tuesday.
Otherwise, the opener of the championship round is next Thursday.
Whatever happens, Ravena said the Blue Eagles will do nothing but ready and raring to go. As he put it, "Ang importante, we're ready, we're prepared. Alam naman naming pisikal ang basketball as a sport so ang mentality namin dapat is to just play through."
