With the strong victory, Alaska improved to 3-2 with back-to-back wins.
It wasn’t even close Wednesday.
Alaska got its first winning streak of the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup, crushing the debuting Magnolia Hotshots at the Big Dome, 103-80.
The Aces led by as many as 28 in a rather underwhelming rematch from the 2018 Governors’ Cup Finals. With the strong victory, Alaska improved to 3-2 with back-to-back wins.
“I can tell you we’re fortunate to get Magnolia in this situation. I thought they did a good job in the last Finals, and we caught them tired and lacking in preparations and I know what that’s like,” head coach Alex Compton said.
Magnolia was playing its first game since losing Game 7 of the Philippine Cup Finals in dramatic fashion.
“You don’t see a team at its best when they’re coming off a Finals in its first game,” Compton added.
The Aces controlled the first half, building a nice 12-point lead at the break, 50-38. Import Chris Daniels then exploded for 18 points in the third and Alaska pulled away for good, 89-64.
Daniels finished with 23 points for the Aces followed by Jvee Casio with 17.
A game after a career-high 15 boards, Jeron Teng had another double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Ian Sangalang led the way for the Hotshots with 17 points and Mark Barroca added 15. Import John Fields, who suited up for Columbian last year, struggled for just 12 in his first game for Magnolia.
