ANTIPOLO CITY, Rizal — It’s Alaska that gets a third straight win.
The Aces survived the Meralo Bolts Sunday in the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup, scoring a 93-89 victory at the Ynares Center here.
Both teams entered with identical 3-2 marks following back-to-back wins but it was the Aces that get to keep their momentum in the mid-season joust.
Now at 4-2, Alaska is at solo fourth in the team standings.
“I was thinking, this is gonna be a one or two-possession game, probably in the 90s. That's... I just expected it to be a tough game,” head coach Alex Compton said.
“I'm really happy to get this win,” he added.
Alaska led by as many as 13 in the second half but the game went close late as the Bolts tried to charge back.
Still, the Aces got more than enough to hold on for the win and make a play at the top of the team standings.
Chris Banchero led Alaska with 23 points, nine rebounds, and four assists for a nice all-around effort.
Vic Manuel added 17 points in only his second game back from a long injury layoff.
Meralco got 27 from import Gani Lawal but not much else from the locals as Baser Amer was the only other player in double figures with 11.
The Bolts dropped to 3-3 with the loss.
