PBA: Hulking Stepheson the “perfect” import for BWE

ANTIPOLO CITY, Rizal — Ray Parks is obviously one of the key factors why Blackwater has started hot in the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

After a 2-9 finish for last place in the All-Filipino, the Elite have turned things around in the mid-season joust.

Halfway through the Commissioner’s Cup, Blackwater leads all teams with a 5-1 record with Parks scoring at least 20 points in all six games, including a career-high 29 Saturday in a big win over NLEX.

However, another key piece in the Elite’s turnaround is import Alex Stepheson, who has also scored at least 20 points in all Blackwater games.

Stepheson is going for 22.1 points, 22 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks so far and he’s a perfect fit for the Elite says Parks.

“Perfect fit. Perfect,” the no. 2 overall pick says of Stepheson.

“A beast on the boards, sets great screens, great character. That’s all you can wish for an import, that they can gel with the locals,” he added.

As someone who’s been playing with imports for most of his basketball career, Parks knows a good one when he sees one.

Stepheson checks all the boxes on what makes a great import and his inside presence on Blackwater has opened up the court for the Elite’s nice collection of creators and scorers.

A strong 5-1 record is proof of that.

“For me I’ve been playing with imports for most of my professional career, so that’s the biggest thing,” Parks said.

“If you can get an import that can gel and is very humble, very kind, and can get the job done on the court, that’s all you can ask for,” he added.
