Just as he was starting to pick up steam in the new PBA conference, James Yap takes a minor setback.
Yap left the game early for Rain or Shine Sunday in the 2019 Commissioner’s Cup against Phoenix.
The former two-time league MVP made his exit in the third quarter due to an injured groin. He was good for 15 points in basically two and a half quarters.
“Biglang sumakit ang groin. Di ko na lang pinilit dahil baka mapunit e. Na-feel ko talaga pag pinilit ko pa mapupunit talaga,” Yap said
“Alam ko pag groin pag napunit masyado matagal [recovery] kaya di ko na lang [pinilit], nagpa-sub na lang ako. Buti nanalo. Thank you sa mga teammates ko, binigyan nila ako ng bonus,” he added as the Elasto Painters used a final 12-2 run to end the game and steal a win from the Fuel Masters.
Yap is not quite sure how he hurt his groin though he did say he felt discomfort prior to the facing Phoenix.
It’s still also unclear just how severe his injury is for now.
“Bigla na lang eh. Bigla na lang. Actually before the game nararamdaman ko na yung quads ko medyo tight so nagii-stretching ako ng quads. Di ko alam bat biglang sumakit itong groin,” he said.
“Di ko pa alam. Check up ko Tuesday so pahinga muna ako tomorrow. Sana rest lang to, strengthening,” Yap added.
