PBA: Still a lot to learn before Northport becomes contender
Following another victory over the Hotshots, the Batang Pier are now once again tied for first place wit a 5-1 record, which is a frachise-best start.

Northport is a far different team now compared to the one from the Philippine Cup.

In the All-Filipino, the Batang Pier collapsed mid-conference and lost six straight. Even with double-digit leads for most of them, Northport failed to close out games that caused them to take beating after beating.

That’s not the case in the Commissioner’s Cup.

Even withouth star guard Stanley Pringle, the Batang Pier are getting the job done and as was the case Wednesday against Magnolia, Northport is able to close out games better and they’re now starting to pile up wins.

Following another victory over the Hotshots, the Batang Pier are now once again tied for first place wit a 5-1 record, which is a frachise-best start.

“Last conference we played well for 36 minutes, I think every single game we had a double digit lead and we would always lose that in the fourth quarter. It was kinda looking a little bit ike that in the end, we were up by like 13 with less than six minutes and Magnolia made a great run,” forward Sean Anthony said of the game against the Hotshots.

“At least we kept our composure, we executed, we did the things we needed to do to get the stops and got the right play. I guess our growth is being able to close out the games with those leads now,” he added.

In this current run, the Batang Pier have some big wins over TNT, San Miguel, Magnolia, and barely lost to defending champion Brgy. Ginebra for their only blemish in their record.

Northport is certainly looking like a contender but Anthony wouldn’t say that just yet. They still have more room to improve he says.

“We’re still learning a lot,” Anthony said.

“You don’t wanna get excited too early or peak too early. We’re just trying to make sure to take the lessons from each game,” he added.
