“I wouldn’t be here without Coach Jimmy, that’s one thing I’d tell you. I wouldn’t be the player I am without him,” Parks said when asked about Alapag.

Blackwater rookie Ray Parks has nothing but great words to San Miguel Beer assistant Jimmy Alapag.

Parks, the no. 2 pick of last year’s Draft, says that Alapag is more than a coach to him.

“I wouldn’t be here without Coach Jimmy, that’s one thing I’d tell you. I wouldn’t be the player I am without him,” Parks said when asked about Alapag.

“I owe a lot to him, he’s a father figure, he’s a mentor, he’s a brother and best friend,” he added.

Alapag coached Parks in the ABL for two seasons, winning one championship together for San Miguel-Alab Pilipinas.

As Parks now gets to face the flagship Beermen for the first time ever in the PBA Friday, Ray looks forward to seeing his old coach on the other side of ht e court this time.

“Going up against him at San Miguel, it’s gonna be a great task, huge mountain to climb,” Parks said.

“But at the end of the day, we still have love for one another and will continue to have this bond that’s more than just basketball. I’m excited,” he added.
