After a deal with Brgy. Ginebra, Northport let go of star guard Stanley Pringle and in return, the Batang Pier got a haul of solid role players in Sol Mercado, Jervy Cruz, and Kevin Ferrer from the Gin Kings.
Might as well call them the Northport Growling Tigers.
After a deal with Brgy. Ginebra, Northport let go of star guard Stanley Pringle and in return, the Batang Pier got a haul of solid role players in Sol Mercado, Kevin Ferrer, and Jervy Cruz from the Gin Kings.
Mercado is about to start a third stint as a Batang Pier while Ferrer and Cruz reunite with their former college coach from UST in Pido Jarencio.
Pido is excited to see his old boys back.
In making the deal with Ginebra and taking the three role players, Northport will address some immediate needs in its team.
For one, the Batang Pier have been decimated by a number of injuries and during Wednesday's overtime win over Rain or Shine, they only had eight players available.
At 6-1, Northport is still tied for first place in the 2019 PBA Commissioner's Cup but having proven players to come in now will help the team to not just absolutely collapse out of exhaustion late.
Kaya kahit papaano yung mga kulang natin, mapupunuan ngayon," he added.
Mercado, Ferrer, and Cruz didn't play for Northport Wednesday but all three should be available for the team Saturday.
Jarencio is not too worried about the team figuring how things work over at Northport. They all came from Ginebra after all so there's quality in there.
