PBA: Beermen get big win over Alaska
With the big win, San Miguel climbed to 2-3 in the standings.

San Miguel’s 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup campaign gets a huge shot in the arm.

The Beermen delivered an inspired performance Friday at the Cuneta Astrodome, dominating rival Alaska, 119-107.

Outscoring the Aces by 22 in the second, the Beermen never looked back after taking full control.

With the big win, San Miguel climbed to 2-3 in the standings.

“This is a very important game, we don’t wanna be left behind [in the standings],” said head coach Leo Austria.

“I’m so happy na nagkaroon ng sense of urgency and we’re able to recover,” he added.

Even with Alex Cabagnot firing 16 points in the opening period, the Beermen had trouble against Alaska, leading by only two, 29-27.

San Miguel then picked things up in the second quarter, dominating the Aces, 36-14, before weathering any comeback attempt by Alaska in the second half to preserve the victory.

Cabagnot was the high man for the Beermen, finishing with a season-high 31 points to go along with six assists.

Import Charles Rhodes and guard Marcio Lassiter each had 23 while forward Arwind Santos had his best game of the conference with 15 points on 50 percent shooting.

The Aces have now lost back-to-back games to follow a strong three-game winning streak.

Chris Banchero led the way with 26 points while returning import Chris Daniels was good for 23 but Alaska dropped to 4-4 with the loss.
