PBA: Dimaunahan gets BWE to playoffs on first try as HC
In the 2019 Commissioner’s Cup, Dimaunahan’s first as head coach, Blackwater has turned things around, going from 12th place to top-3 as of Friday, July 5, in the mid-season joust.

After a 2-9 record and a last-place finish in the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup, Blackwater handed the reigns to Aris Dimaunahan.

Maybe the Elite just needed a spark to get things going again or something.

In the 2019 Commissioner’s Cup, Dimaunahan’s first as head coach, Blackwater has turned things around, going from 12th place to top-3 as of Friday, July 5, in the mid-season joust.

By surviving the Magnolia Hotshots in overtime, Blackwater moved to 6-3 in the team standings, enough to get them to the next round.

“I’m very happy for our franchise,” Dimaunahan said on his first PBA playoff appearance as head coach.

“From last conference na dead-last kami, it’s a testament of how much the management is will to help out and the players also to help each other out to get to the playoffs,” he added.

A return to the playoffs is obviously a big deal but the job is not quite done for Blackwater.

With two games to go in the elimination round, the Elite can still make a play for a twice-to-beat edge.

Blackwater obviously also wants some success in the postseason. Making it to the playoffs is not enough.

“The work doesn’t stop there. Kailangang mag climb up pa. We always believe that the deeper you go in the conference, the harder it is to win games,” Dimaunahan said.

“The more we need to be disiplinado and the more na team basketball dapat nilalaro namin kasi we’ll be facing tougher and tougher games ahead of us,” he added.
