PBA: McCullough offers instant positive impact for SMB
And in his first game. Friday, the 24-year-old former Brooklyn Net delivered, finishing with 47 points before fouling out in a win against NLEX.

Chris McCullough was just what the doctor ordered for San Miguel.

Struggling in the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup with a 2-5 record, the Beermen let go of former Best Import Charles Rhodes to take a gamble on McCullough.

And in his first game. Friday, the 24-year-old former Brooklyn Net delivered, finishing with 47 points before fouling out in a win against NLEX.

McCullough had 45 through three quarters, 23 in the third period alone, as he sparked a Beermen rally in the second half to put the Road Warriors away.

“I think he gives us high morale. That’s something we have to be thankful for. He helped us a lot,” head coach Leo Austria said.

As good as McCullough is offensively however, the Beermen are hoping he can figure things out on the defensive out pretty quickly.

But as long as he continues to win games and gets SMB into the playoffs, it should be no problem.

“Defensively, kailangan pa kasi he’s trying to adjust to the brand of basketball here. He has to know all the players he’s guarding,” Austria said of McCullough, who actually fouled out against the Road Warriors.

“We don’t want that to happene because we need him in the endgame. [But] mahalaga dun nanalo kami and gave us a chance in the playoffs,” he added.
