Coach Chito just glad Magnolia’s fate still in its own hands
Only one thing stands in Magnolia's way of having no complications in the quarterfinals - top-seed TNT

Magnolia has dropped three games in a row in the 2019 Commissioner's Cup.

Frustrated by Rain or Shine, Wednesday at Araneta Coliseum, the Hotshots now find themselves standing at the sixth spot with a 5-5 record.

Not only that, their entry into the quarterfinals had also been delayed for the third straight time.

Of course, head coach Chito Victolero could only lament his team's untimely slide. "Mabigat, mahirap. Siguro, we have to check ourselves," he told reporters post-game.

With all but one team eliminated from contention, the magic number for the next round is six - and for two weeks now, Magnolia has been just a win short of that.

Despite not making good on their last three tries, though, they have one last shot at locking up a place in the quarterfinals. "We need to have that sense of urgency doon sa next game namin which is the only chance na makakasiguro kami sa quarterfinals," their mentor said.

Only, that will have to come against a red-hot TNT side which just clinched the overall top-seed, which has won all of its last seven games, and which has Best Import frontrunner Terrence Jones shining bright.

"Wala kaming choice e. Wala na tayong magagawa dun," coach Chito answered after being asked about their upcoming heavyweight bout. "Kailangan namin yun harapin and malay mo, swertehin 'di ba?"

In the face of the odds, Magnolia chooses to look at the positives. "Nakatatlong try kami and medyo hindi kami sinwerte and this is another chance. Ang maganda lang doon, nasa kamay pa rin namin," the veteran tactician said.

And one thing's for sure, the Hotshots will go all-out once more for that elusive playoff berth-clinching win. As coach Chito put it, "Ang maganda nito, medyo malayo pa yun and we can review everything. We need to stay positive lang kasi wala namang maitutulong yung negativity."

He then continued, "Kilala ko naman yung team ko, kung gaano sila katibay, kung gaano sila kabeterano, and kung gaano katindi yung dibdib nila."
