PBA: NLEX gets head start for Governors’ Cup

The 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup was a lost cause for NLEX but the team is still good after getting some meaningful games to end the mid-season joust.

In preparation for the 2019 Governors’ Cup, the Road Warriors won two of their last three games, including Friday’s decision over the Phoenix Fuel Masters at the Cuneta Astrodome.

Import Olu Ashaolu and Jericho Cruz continue to get more reps and Kiefer Ravena is expected to be back for the Governors’ Cup.

Basically, it’s all systems go for NLEX’s comeback effort to end the season.

“This is just a send-off for us on a winning note. We’ll take the win however it is,” head coach Yeng Guiao said.

“We’ll start preparing for the next conference. We’ll have a short break but after that, we’ll start working on our preparations,” he added.

Since he has to coach Gilas Pilipinas in the FIBA World Cup, Guiao also took into account his own schedule.

While he’s preparing with the national team, he made sure to be on top of things for his NLEX team.

“The reason we got Olu to come early is to just get him used playing to the system. We also took into consideration that it’s better to start early because I’ll be missing some practice days with my team because we’ll be in China,” Guiao said.

“So kinonsider na rin namin na maaga kaming mag-start so I could put in extra days for NLEX even as I do my responsibilities for the national team in China,” he added.
