PBA: Northport makes final play for top seed
With an 8-2 record, Northport is at second place and is a full game back of no. 1 TNT in the standings.

Northport has secured a a twice-to-beat edge in the quarterfinals but the Batang Pier make a final play for the top overall seed in the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup Friday at the Cuneta Astrodome.

With an 8-2 record, Northport is at second place and is a full game back of no. 1 TNT in the standings.

But by virtue of the win over the other rule, the Batang Pier take first place if they tie the KaTropa. That’s only possible if Northport gets to nine wins though and the team will go for that against Meralco in the second 7:00 p.m. game in Pasay.

If Northport wins, they’ll have to hope that TNT loses to Magnolia next week in order to take first place. If they drop this one, the KaTropa formally enters the playoffs as the no. 1 seed regardless of the Hotshots game.

Meanwhile, Meralco needs a win bad. The Bolts are on a four-game losing skid and their current 3-6 record has the team outside the playoff picture.

In the first game at 4:30 p.m. Phoenix (4-6) tries to get into the playoffs as well against also-ran NLEX (2-8).
