Justin Brownlee set a career-high for the second straight game
Justin Brownlee yet again came through in the clutch, hitting the go-ahead basket in Ginebra's 127-123 overtime triumph over very game Columbian in the penultimate game day of the elimination round of the 2019 PBA Commissioner's Cup, Sunday at Araneta Coliseum.
With the two teams going at it well into the extra period, Brownlee's midrange jumper over the outstretched arms of Glenn Khobuntin and Rashawn Mccarthy gave the Gin Kings the separation they would protect until the final buzzer.
That shot was just the punctuation mark to his masterful 50-point, 14-rebound, five-assist, four-steal, and four-block performance.
The Dyip still had 32 ticks to go to make something happen, but both Mccarthy and Lester Prosper muffed on their shots.
LA Tenorio was then sent to the line where he converted his couple of charities to seal the deal for crowd darlings.
In the end, Tenorio had 15 points and six assists to his name while backcourt-mates Stanley Pringle and Scottie Thompson both did it all with the former finishing with 16 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists and the latter ending with 12 markers, nine boards, and seven dimes.
It was also Pringle who set the stage for their resident import to take over as the former's floater in the dying moments of regulation was what forced overtime.
Brownlee's heroics got for Ginebra its seventh win in 11 games, but it did not do anything in terms of the standings as they have already been locked into the third-seed by virtue of Blackwater's victory versus Alaska earlier in the day.
They now await how the bottom half of the seedings shake out, but their next matchups may be opposite Magnolia, San Miguel, or Rain or Shine.
Columbian was denied in its bid for its first back-to-back wins in six conferences despite the best efforts of American reinforcement Prosper who had 45 points and 18 rebounds. CJ Perez also contributed 20 points, eight rebounds, and six assists while Mccarthy chimed in 14 markers, 11 dimes, and eight boards.
The Dyip close out their campaign in the conference at 3-8.
