PBA: James carries Meralco past SMB and into playoff for 8th
Finally arresting a five-game losing skid, Meralco ended the elimination round with a 4-7 record, enough to push them to a playoff for 8th against the Alaska Aces (4-7) Friday.

Meralco gets that much-needed win just in time.

The Bolts managed to hold off San Miguel Beer Wednesday in the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup, scoring a crucial 95-91 win at the Big Dome.

Finally arresting a five-game losing skid, Meralco ended the elimination round with a 4-7 record, enough to push them to a playoff for 8th against the Alaska Aces (4-7) Friday. The Bolts win also eliminated Phoenix (4-7) from contention.

Meanwhile, the Beermen took a crucial loss. Finishing with a 5-6 record, San Miguel can finish no higher than 6th and they could still drop to 7th place depending on the result of the final TNT-Magnolia game.

A win by the Beermen would have allowed them to finish as high as 5th place, putting them in an early Finals rematch against defending champion Brgy. Ginebra.

Delroy James powered Meralco with 34 points, 5 assists and 6 assists.
