Delroy James sure picked a great time to get his first PBA win.

Scoring 34 points Wednesday against San Miguel Beer, James led Meralco to a crucial 95-91 decision to help the Bolts stay alive in the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

James scored six points in the fourth, which were Meralco’s final six points to complete the win, setting up a playoff for 8th place against the Alaska Aces Friday at the MOA Arena.

“It’s good to take this win, continue playing in the conference and then try to get another one on Friday,” James said.

“Just got to take one game at a time and not look too far ahead,” he added.

During his clutch takeover, James apparently waved off an attempted timeout by head coach Norman Black.

The no timeout gamble ultimately paid off as James made the Beermen pay by drilling three crucial layups as Meralco broke away from an 89-all tie inside the final three minutes.

“It was a momentum thing. It was like, we probably called a timeout in trying to get me the best shot and I felt in that moment that was the shot I think I could have got,” James said.

“I felt like at that moment, there was no need because I was in a good groove to try to make something happen for my team,” he added.
